What it measures
The eight things every buyer checks.
- 01
Books a buyer can trust
Every offer is built on your financial statements. If a buyer doubts them, the price drops.
- 02
Headroom to grow
A buyer is paying for the next five years, not the last five.
- 03
Risk spread out
One big customer, one supplier or one key person is a risk a buyer will price in.
- 04
Profit that turns into cash
Profit on paper is nice. Profit in the bank is what a buyer actually wants.
- 05
Income that comes back
Money that arrives every month without a new sale is worth the most.
- 06
Hard to compete with
If anyone could copy you tomorrow, your profits look less safe.
- 07
Loyal customers
Buyers will call your customers. Happy ones close deals.
- 08
Works without the owner
If the business needs you every day, the buyer is really buying a job.
What your score means
- 80–100Ready to sellBuyers will see a well-run business. You can go to market now.
- 65–79Almost thereA few weeks of tidying up should lift your price.
- 45–64Work to doFix your weakest areas first. Three to six months well spent.
- 0–44Too early to sellBuild the foundations first, then sell for a much better price.
Questions
About the score.
What does the Sale-Ready Score measure?
How easy your business will be to sell, and at what kind of price. It scores you out of 100 on the eight things buyers look at first, from how trustworthy your books are to whether the business works without you.
How is it different from the value calculator?
The calculator answers 'what could I get?'. The score answers 'how easy will it be to get it?' and tells you the three things to fix first. Most owners do both.
What's a good score?
Above 65 means a buyer will see a solid business and you can start the sale. Between 45 and 65, a few months of preparation usually earns back far more than it costs. Below 45, build the foundations first.
